What are the side effects?

Tramadol, like any drug, may cause side effects. If you experience any side effects that are too severe or if they do not go away as you take the drug.

Some side effects you may experience:

  • dry mouth
  • sweating
  • dizziness
  • sleepiness
  • chills
  • weakness
  • itching
  • difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
  • constipation
  • headache
  • diarrhea
  • nervousness
  • vomiting
  • agitation
  • nausea
  • uncontrollable shaking of a part of the body
  • heartburn or indigestion
  • muscle tightness
  • drowsiness
  • changes in mood


Some side effects from Tramadol can be very serious and you should contact your doctor as soon as possible if you experience any of the following:
  • hallucinations (hearing things or seeing things that do not exist)
  • seizures
  • hoarseness
  • sores on the inside of your mouth, eyes, throat, or nose
  • swelling of the face, lower legs, throat, ankles, tongue, feet, hands, or eyes
  • flu-like symptoms
  • difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • hives
  • rash
